The University of Pisa (UNIPI) is a public higher education institution. It has twenty departments, with high level research centres in the fields of agriculture, astrophysics, computer science, engineering, medicine and veterinary medicine. Established in 1343, UNIPI is one of the most prestigious Italian higher education institutions and a modern centre for teaching and advanced
research. It has a scientific tradition of excellence and the ability to attract about half of its students from outside its natural territorial basin.
UNIPI stands every year in the top positions of the most prestigious international rankings both by universities and subject. According to the 3 most famous ranking institutes (THE, ARWU and QS)
UNIPI is in the top 200-400 of the best universities position in the worldwide and among the 7 best universities in Italy.
In the UNIPI vision, the creation, increase, transfer and spreading of knowledge are greatly enhanced by a wider and merged international working context. Excellence in research and teaching is never produced in isolation but bringing together different skills, experiences and points of view.
The University of Pisa awarded two scholarships in 2020 to refugee students within the UNICORE programme. Fact and Figures: founded in 1343; 20 departments (covering all main areas of teaching and research); 13 museums; 17 libraries; 273 laboratories; 5 canteens.
