Università degli Studi di Salerno

The University of Salerno was founded in 1944 when the University Institute of Education was established. Within a few years, the following faculties were created: Arts and Philosophy, Economics and Business, Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences, Law, then Engineering, Pharmacy, Political Science, Foreign Languages and Literature, Medicine and Surgery. The University's mission is to carry out high-quality research and training activities to enrich and make available the scientific and cultural heritage developed through studies and research at the service of students, businesses, institutions and, more generally, the entire community. It pursues the development and transmission of knowledge, promoting and organising research and providing cultural and professional training as well as the civic growth of students with respect for equal opportunities. In recognising and affirming the inseparability of teaching and research activities, the University of Salerno guarantees the fundamental value of freedom of research without distinction of disciplinary, thematic or methodological fields, the freedom of teaching of individual lecturers in accordance with the teaching projects approved by the University, as well as the autonomy of scientific and teaching structures in the organisation of research and teaching. In this sense, it supports the promotion of merit. It also protects human dignity through its programmes and actions, while promoting civil coexistence and overcoming cultural, religious, racial or linguistic barriers.
