University of Cagliari

The University of Cagliari (UNICA), founded in 1620, is a public state University with about 25,000 students and over 2,000 teaching and technical administrative staff. It is located in the island of Sardinia-Italy, in the middle of the Mediterranean, and is one of its largest organizations. Given its geographic location, it has consolidated relationships and exchanges with the southern Mediterranean countries, at both students and staff levels. It is a multidisciplinary HEI offering an interesting and complete education at undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels through 6 Faculties (Biology and Pharmacy; Engineering and Architecture; Medicine and Surgery; Sciences; Economics, Law and Political Sciences; Humanities) and 15 Departments. The community is enriched by an international mix of students coming from foreign HEIs. UNICA’s students have many opportunities to study abroad, thanks to more than 1000 partnership agreements. It participates in several front-end international research and cooperation programmes (EU-FP7, H2020, and HE, INTERREG, NEXT-MED, others). The University of Cagliari is member of EDUC-European Digital UniverCity, one of the first 17 „European Universities“ Alliances funded in 2019 by the European Commission with the aim to increase the international competitiveness of European HEIs through a shared, integrated, long-term joint strategy for education with links to research and innovation, and to society. EDUC has now 8 partner universities from 7 European countries and its research dimension has been reinforced through the H2020 SWAFS “EDUC-SHARE” and the HE EDUC-WIDE projects. UNICA received the HR Excellence in Research award in 2024.
